Reds boss summons Cooper
Reds chief executive Jim Carmichael says he is fed up with controversial flyhalf Quade Cooper’s constant ramblings on Twitter.
The injured pivot has grown increasingly perturbed under the conservative style of national coach Robbie Deans and has been taking to Twitter in recent weeks to vent his frustration.
Cooper, who called the Wallabies camp a “toxic environment”, said Rugby Union would lose its appeal in Australia if the Wallabies are to continue playing a stale brand of rugby and hints at exiting the code to play alongside Sonny Bill Williams.
Responding to a comment from a fan suggesting he should play his natural attacking game, Cooper quipped: "I am allowed from February to May sir," alluding to the Super Rugby season under Reds coach Ewen McKenzie.
Cooper insists his tweets were not an attack on Deans but the whole Wallabies set-up – players, selectors, officials and coaches alike – which he believed was inferior to the structures of the 2011 Super Rugby champions.
"All I want to do is fix the problems and get on with it and win rugby games," Cooper said. "But if to say that Ewen is the next coach of course I would support that. That's not to say I'm not supporting Robbie. He's done a lot for me as a kid coming through."
Carmichael on Monday condemned Cooper’s Twitter posts and told The Courier Mail that it is time to sit down with his playmaker.
"I'm fed up to be honest. Quade is making silly comments that do damage to our code," Carmichael said.
