Strauss starts Scottish stint

Former Lions captain Josh Strauss will make his Glasgow Warriors debut against Zebre at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday.

The Currie Cup-winning Lions skipper was one of three new signings welcomed to the club via a half-time parade in last weekend’s Connacht game and will make his first appearance for the club at number eight.

Strauss is an inspirational leader who brings considerable experience to the Warriors as well as the ability to play at eighthman, blindside flank and provide cover at lock.

Head coach Gregor Townsend said he has been impressed with Strauss and fellow new recruits Niko Matawalu and Ofa Fainga’anuku.

“It’s great that Josh, Niko and Ofa are involved in the 23. They’ve all hit the ground running in training this week and are desperate to show the Warriors supporters just why we’ve brought them to the club,” said Townsend.
