Bok skipper Whiteley back in action

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Regular Springboks captain Warren Whiteley will finally make his long-awaited return to the field.

Whiteley, who has been out for of actions for several months due to a knee injury, will captain the Golden Lions during their Challange Cup match against Blue Bulls on Sunday.

Aside from Whiteley, Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx, scrumhalf Ross Cronje and wing Courtnall Skosan have returned from injuries and will all feature in the match

The return of Whiteley and Marx will draw alot of attention, eseically with the focus on the Rugby Championshop next month. The duo will use this opportunity, along with the Super Rugby matches,  to gradually return to match-fit.

Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus made no secret that the duo will definitely feature in the Rugby Championship commencing in August.

He Revealed that he has kept contact with both of them throughout the June Test series and also said: “It will be better to let them prepare with the Province [Lions] and have them ready for the Rugby Championship,”

Commenting on the Springboks return to the Lions, Rudolf Straeuli, CEO of the Lions Rugby Company, said: “After a break in Super Rugby for the International series we welcome the opportunity to give our Super Rugby players game time and to ensure our preparation is on track.

“Warren and Malcolm are back from injury and this is an ideal opportunity to get them back on the field.

“They will be joined with fellow Springboks Courtnall Skosan, Lionel Mapoe and Ross Cronjé,” he added.
