Dyantyi joins Sharks on clean slate says Hugo
NEWS: Sharks captain Reniel Hugo says new recruit Aphiwe Dyantyi has learnt his lesson and will join the Durbanites on a clean slate.
Dyantyi met his new Sharks team mates for the first time on Tuesday after completing a four-year ban for the use of banned substances.
Although he is eligible to play in August, Hugo said the Springbok will most likely be assessed and receive his training programme in order to join training during the off-season.
“He hasn’t trained with us yet. I am sure he will undergo a medical assessment so he can get his programme as he hasn’t played rugby for quite some time. I am sure when we start our pre-season training ahead of next year, he will be at the same level as the rest of us,” Hugo said.
“He comes to the Sharks on a clean slate, and I think he’s just come out here to enjoy his rugby. You never know what you had until it’s gone. He was in the Springboks but unfortunately he made a mistake and paid the price.
“So he’ll come here with lots of energy and a big hunger. I think he’ll come and just inspire a lot of us to use every opportunity that come our way.
“I met him today and he is really excited and looking forward to joining us. We are going to welcome him with open arms and let him do his job on the field for us. We all saw him play for the Lions and the Springboks and he obviously has the x-factor. Those are the guys you want in your team, someone that can create something out of nothing,” Hugo commented.

The captain said it is a new beginning for the Bok wing, one that he will grab with both hands.
“I am sure he has learnt from his mistakes so he will be here to make a difference. Hopefully he comes here help us bring more trophies.”
