Law Discussion: Legal answer
Last week we quoted an incident from the Sevens match in Las Vegas when Kenya played Samoa in the final of the Plate competition. Samoa were leading but the enthusiastic Kenyans were fighting back and scored a try under the posts.
Time was running out and the try-scorer hurried to kick the conversion. He kicked it over the crossbar.
Our question was whether this was legal and would therefore count two points.
The answer is No. It is not allowed.
DEFINITIONS
Goal. A player scores a goal by kicking then ball over an opponents’ cross bar and between the goal posts from the field of play, by a place kick or a drop-kick.

DEFINITIONS
The Field of play is the area between the goal lines and the touchlines. These lines are not in the field of play.
That means that in-goal is not in the field of play. That men as that the conversion taken from ingoal does not stand.
And there is no variation for Sevens which allows a conversion to be taken in in-goal.
