S14 - Week 1 - Stats

Super 14 is upon us with many errors on sweaty fields and a rash of yellow cards. We deal here with some statistics which we hope to update along the 14 weeks.

Soundsure have been a huge help with much of the statistics, as they always are.

“Stoppages” is the total of penalties, free kicks, line-outs, scrums and their infernal resets, and drop-outs.

Later we shall discuss laws related to incidents in the matches. There is an especially interesting one form the Sharks-Bulls match.

Sanctionary Cards

It was not a good week for discipline. There no cards in three Six Nations matches and 9 in the Super 14. In many cases it was, as it was in Casablanca, a case of rounding up the usual suspects!

Recipients:

Troy Flavell (Blues) – stamping
Clark Dermody (Highlanders) – punching
Jono Gibbes (Chiefs) – high tackle
Marty Holah (Chiefs) – repeated infringement
George Smith (Brumbies) – repeated infringement
Jaque Fourie (Lions) – spear tackle
James Horwill (Reds) – tackle illegality
Mitch Chapman (Reds) – tackle illegality)
Schalk Burger (Stormers) – late tackle
