Statistics - RWC, Day 15

There were two matches thrilling matches on this day – Canada and Japan drew when Japan scored a try in injury time and converted from far out. In the other match Romania came from behind to win when they scored a try with eight minutes to play.. We give some stats.

We also give some Rugby World Cup stats accumulatively.

Sanctions

Carl Hayman of New Zealand became the first recipient of a yellow card. He was not the only one.

There was a yellow card on this day – for Pat Riordan, the Candaian hooker for stanping.

There was also the suspension of Brian Lima, cited for a high tackle on Jonny Wilkinson – a sad end to the World Cup for a man who had been to five World Cups. Samoa has appealed aginst his sentence.

There was also the citing of Frans Steyn of South Africa for biting, though there was pohtographic evidence that Jospeh Vaka’s finger was at no stage near Steyn’s mouth but tucked into Steyn’s jersey as he pulled Steyn to ground. It may just be that the wrong player was cited. Steyn was exonerated – after a fashion.

Could a player be cited for false accusation?
