There is an interesting stoppages statistic from a match this weekend – just 59, surely a record for a match of this kind and certainly so in the context of the many stoppages in this year’s Super 14. Have a look at the totals to see for yourself.

There were again yellow cards – for Wayne van Heerden, Kurtis Haiu, Wycliff Palu, David Hall, Leon MacDonald, Mark McLinden and Jano Vermaak.
When MacDonald was sin-binned for an air tackle, the commentators said that he “was not that sort of player” and that there had been “no malice”. The matter of sin-binning is not a moral judgement or a character assessment. It is simply a reaction to an action.
There was also a citing with suspension. Will Genia of the Reds was suspended for four weeks for a dangerous tackle of the spear variety on Keegan Daniel of the Sharks.
