IRB appoints more SA refs
The International Rugby Board had appointed South Africans to two World Cup Qualifiers and to the Women’s Under-20 Nations Cup.
Pro Legoete will be refereeing the World Cup qualifier between Uganda and Tunisia on the 13 June 2009 with Tiaan Jonker and Peet Badenhorst as his assistants.
Craig Joubert will referee the World Cup qualifier between Namibia and Ivory Coast on 27 June 2009 with assistants Joey Salmans and Stefan Breytenbach.
Eugenia Daniels, who refereed her first Test last year, the only Test referee who is the daughter of a Test referee, has also been appointed to officiate at the Women’s Under-20 Nations Cup taking place in London on the 15-8 July 2009.
André Watson, the manager of South African referees, is delighted. He said: “Firstly, I think this will be a great opportunity for Eugenia to referee at that level. We are grooming her for next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup and I am sure the experience she will gain at the Nations Cup will only but add further value to her officiating.
“Pro become our youngest Test referee last year and will officiate his second Test next month while we also are very fortunate to have one of the world’s best referees in Craig Joubert officiating in the Windhoek game. This means that we will have one of the top referees in the game officiating in Africa.
“We are extremely happy with the appointments of our referees that have been selected It’s good to see that their performances are valued by the IRB. Our Match Officials have constantly received excellent acknowledgement for their performances. I want to congratulate them on their appointments and wish them well for their tasks ahead.”
