Jaftha, Berry off to the Commonwealth Games

Two of South Africa’s best up-and-coming referees, Stuart Berry and Jason Jaftha, have been invited to participate in the XIX Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, on 11 and 12 October 2010.

Sevens is a part of the Commonwealth Games, and Jaftha and Berry will be match officials at the Games.

Berry has been included in the panel for referees, while Jaftha has been selected as an assistant referee.

André Watson, the manager of referees at SARU, was very pleased with these appointments. He said: “We rate both Stuart and Jason very highly – they are without doubt two of the best young referees in South Africa and are on our National Panel,

“Stuart and Jason have also been involved in this season’s IRB Sevens World Series, where they gained valuable experience. Some of our best referees, like Craig Joubert and Marius Jonker, cut their teeth in Sevens Rugby.”

This weekend Berry will be refereeing at the last in the IRB’s Sevens Series in Edinburgh.
