Junior World Cup refs for Day Two
The International Rugby Board’s refereeing boss, Paddy O’Brien has made known the referees for the second round of matches in the Junior World Championship taking place in Wales.
James Leckie and Chris Pollock will be refereeing their first matches at the tournament while Romain Poite and James Bolabiu act as touch judges. (Assistant referees belong to experimental law variations and the tournament is happening under “old laws”.)
The three venues being used are Cardiff Arms Park, the historic home of Cardiff RFC next to Millennium Stadium in the heart of the capital city, The Racecourse Ground at Wrexham in North Wales and the new Liberty Stadium in Swansea, west of Cardiff, the home of the Ospreys.
It takes longer to get from Wrexham to Cardiff than it does from London or Heathrow! The ground is the home of Wrexham soccer club, founded in 1872, the oldest existing soccer club in Wales.
Liberty Stadium was opened in 2005. Before that St Helen’s Ground down towards the Mumbles was the rugby sporting ground in Swansea.
