Poite for Heineken Final
Romain Poite of France has been appointed by the European Rugby Cup to referee the final of the 2010/11 Heineken Cup, while George Clancy of France does the Amlin Challenge Cup Final. Both of them have been appointed to referee in the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand.
Poite will referee his first Heineken Cup Final when Leinster and Northampton Saints meet at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, May 21.
Poite from Midi pyrénées, who is 35 years of age, refereed a quarterfinal of the Heineken Cup, between Northampton Saints and Ulster, and a semifinal of the Amlin Challenge Cup, between Munster and Harlequins. His predecessors were Wayne Barnes last year and Nigel Owens the two years before that.
Clancy of Limerick, 34 years of age, will referee the Challenge Cup Final between Harlequins and Stade Français at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday, 20 May 2011.
He refereed the semifinal of the Heineken Cup between Northampton Saints and Perpignan. He follows in the footsteps of compatriot Alain Rolland who refereed the 2010 Final.
