Referees to 20 September
The Tri-Nations ends this year. The final match will not affect any silverware but it will be no less competitive for that. New Zealand against Australia is tough stuff. This week Craig Joubert of South Africa will referee the match.
There is an interesting apportionment in the Magners league where a Welsh club is at home to an Irish club and the referee is Irish. Obviously people trust Alain Rolland, as well they should. It may also further move appointments away from the narrowness of appointing only unattached referees. The appointment was done by the Welsh Rugby Union.
There are two Australian referees down to referee Currie Cup matches in South Africa – Ian Smith and Paul Marks and a third, Nathan Pearce, to referee an Air New Zealand Cup match.
