Refs for Europe's quarters

The European Rugby Cup has named the referees appointed to the quarterfinals of the Heineken Cup and the Amlin Challenge Cup in the second weekend of April. The four referees for the Heineken Cup quarters are Nigel Owens, Alain Rolland, Romain Poite and Wayne Barnes.

Rolland of Ireland, the referee for the 2007 Rugby World Cup Final, gets the quarterfinals underway when he takes charge of the all-French contest between Perpignan and Toulon at Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium earlier on the Saturday.

Owens of Wales will referee the clash of former champions when Leinster and Leicester Tigers meet in the Heineken Cup quarterfinals at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday, 9 April. Owens, who refereed the 2008 and 2009 Heineken Cup Finals, will be in charge of his fifth tournament quarterfinal and his 54th Heineken Cup match overall.

Poite of France will referee his first Heineken Cup knock-out match when Northampton Saints and Ulster clash at stadium:mk, a.k.a the Denbigh Stadium, in Milton Keynes in the first of the Sunday contests.

Barnes of England will referee the other all-French affair between Biarritz and defending champions Toulouse at Estadio Anoeta in San Sebastian across the Border into the land of the Spanish Basques.

Amlin Challenge Cup 2010/11 Quarterfinals

George Clancy of Ireland will get the 2011 knock-out stages underway when he referees the Amlin Challenge Cup quarterfinal between La Rochelle and Clermont Auvergne on Thursday, 7 April.

Dave Pearson of England will take charge of the clash of former Heineken Cup winners Brive and Munster in the last of the quarterfinals on Saturday, 9 April.

On Friday, 8 April, the all-English tie between Harlequins and London Wasps will be controlled by Christophe Berdos of France while Alan Lewis of Ireland will be in charge of the second all-French tie between Stade Français  and Montpellier.
