ARU announces TNT Match Officials Team for 2016
Angus Gardner and Amy Perrett join Australian Rugby in a full time capacity in 2016.
Gardner will be the Australian Rugby Union's top on-field match official with Amy Perrett becoming the first full-time female referee in Australia. She will start her role in mid-February and will operate as a Referee Development Officer, operating in New South Wales.
Gardner and Perrett have both been selected to officiate in Six Nations matches in Ireland on the same day in the second weekend in March. Gardner will referee the men's match between Ireland and Italy in Dublin and Amy Perrett the women's match between the same countries at Donnybrook.
The Australian Rugby Union’s Head of Referees, Scott Young welcomed the challenges for this team in 2016: “I extend my congratulations to the entire Match Officials Team for 2016 with a special acknowledgement to Angus and Amy on their appointments.
“We have a very experienced team working to ensure the best for our game from an officiating point of view and we look forward to the challenges ahead in 2016.”
In other new additions to the team, former Queensland Reds players Nic Berry and Jordan Way join the squad with Berry elevated to the Super Rugby Referees Panel.
