U20: Doleman to Referee the Final
James Doleman of New Zealand has been chosen to referee the final match of World Rugby’s Under-20 Championship between France and Australia as the Jockey Club of Rosario on Saturday, 22 June 2019.
Doleman, who is 27, has made a name for himself on World Rugby’s Sevens circuit. This year alone he refereed at eight of the 10 tournaments. He has also refereed in New Zealand’s provincial tournament, the Mitre Cup.
He has had an interesting life. He was born to two teachers in Tauranga and spent much of his growing up moving with them and in the Philippines and China. Then he went to high school at Rosmini College, a Catholic school in Takapuna on Auckland’s north shore. He actually taught there for three years and was a member of Auckland referees but, having followed his father into refereeing, he is now the referees’ development officer in Otago, where he first joined a referees’ association, back in 2010.
He has refereed three matches at the Under-20 World Championship, most recently the semifinal between Austral a and home side Argentina.
