Walsh back and honoured

Steve Walsh, formerly of New Zealand and now refereeing in New South Wales, was honoured at the New South Wales  Rugby Awards at the Citigate Central Sydney when he received the Dick Byres Medal as Referee of the Year.

the medal is named after the former Test Referee Dick Byres and is a result of voting by the 12 Sydney Premiership clubs.

The referees also get the chance to vote. After each Premiership match they vote for the outstanding players in the match on  3-2-1 basis. The winner at the end of the season is awarded the prestigious Ken Catchpole Medal. This time it went to Andrew Smith, the Northern Suburbs centre.\

The David Brockhoff Medal for Coach of the Year went to Phil Blake of Manly.
