Bok lock under the knife again

INJURY UPDATE: World Cup-winning Springbok lock Rudolph Snyman has suffered a setback during the most recent block of his rehabilitation.

His Irish province, Munster, revealed on Tuesday that the Bok will undergo another surgical procedure.

Snyman, a key member of the Springboks’ 2019 World Cup-winning squad, tore his anterior cruciate ligament just seven minutes into his Munster debut – when he fell awkwardly after poaching a Leinster line-out back in August.

He has worked hard to get back on the field and be fit ahead of the arrival of the British and Irish Lions in July.

However, the latest setback again places a question mark over his availability for the three-Test series.

“He will see a knee specialist this week and will undergo a minor procedure on his knee after suffering an unrelated injury,” Munster said in a statement.

“This will delay his return to training for a number of weeks.”

It will also test the Bok second row depth.

Fellow World Cup winner Eben Etzebeth is currently sidelined with a finger fracture, suffered while with his French club Toulon.

He injured his finger, which later required surgery, in training and will be sidelined for another few weeks.

Also on the Bok injury list is Sale Sharks lock Lood de Jager, who fractured his leg.

The only fit lock from the 2019 World Cup squad is Franco Mostert, who plays club rugby in the Japan Top League.
