Duhan: 'I still can't believe I've done that'

REACTION: Scotland wing Duhan van der Merwe has opened up on his sensational try in his team’s 29-23 win over England in Round One of the Six Nations.

In the first half, the South African-born star received the ball just inside his own half before setting off on a curving run that saw him beat five England players on his way to the tryline.

The Edinburgh wing then proved to be the match-winner six minutes from time when, with England leading by a point, he went over for his second try of the match.

On that superb solo try, Van der Merwe said: “I’ve obviously seen it a couple of times – I still can’t believe I’ve done that

“I giggle when I watch it.

“Looking back at it, I’m just absolutely buzzing.

“Obviously for me personally it’s the best try I’ve ever scored.”

With three home games to play in the tournament, Scotland will be well-placed to put up a serious fight for the title this year. However, Van der Merwe is not looking too far ahead.

“We have to take it game by game,” the 27-year-old said.

“We have to focus on Wales [at Murrayfield] this weekend.

“But also we believe that we can go and beat every single team out there because we’re a really, really tight group and we play for each other. So why not, is my question.”
