Recently Lions Company CEO Rudolf Straeuli expressed his displeasure with the poaching of star flank Vincent Tshituka and burly prop Carlu Sadie by the Sharks.

He made it clear they are ‘retaining their rights; and may well follow the legal route.

There are other high-profile departures – captain Burger Odendaal, who will join Premiership club Wasps, and centre Wandisile Simelane (to the Bulls).

On Tuesday the Lions confirmed that utility back Stean Pienaar is the latest to have resigned to the Pride.

Pienaar has extended his stay at Ellis Park till June 2024.

The Lions recently signed Sanele Nohamba (a Springbok training squad member) from the Sharks, while they also resigned the likes of Morne van den Berg, Jordan Hendrikse, Ruben Schoeman, Sibusiso Sangweni and Jaco Visagie.
