It was back in February when the Durban side confirmed that the Bok superstar will be joining them on a five-year contract from French club Toulon.

At the time, Etzebeth admitted that returning to South Africa after spending a few years overseas was a big motivation and that he also sees a bright future in Durban.

“Family and being closer to home was a big motivating factor, as well as being able to represent a great team like the Sharks,” said Etzebeth.

“I can see things are happening there, Siya [Kolisi] is there and we’ve been friends since were in the provincial Under-19s together and now we will get to play for the Sharks together.”

The 30-year-old former Stormer is part of a growing list of Springboks at the Sharks.

Some of the other big names in Durban include Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, Bongi Mbonambi, Lukhanyo Am, Thomas, du Toit, Makazole Mapimpi, Ox Nche, Jaden Hendrikse and Rohan Janse van Rensburg.
