Loose forward Junior Pokomela has signed a three-year deal that will see him play for the Stormers until at least 2024.

The athletic Pokomela joined the Stormers on loan at the start of the United Rugby Championship and made the move more permanent by signing a contract.

A player who is comfortable in any position in the back row, Pokomela has impressed this season with his work ethic both on the training field and on matchday.

The 25-year-old has already made some valuable contributions on the side of the scrum for the Stormers this season and is looking forward to growing further over the coming years.

“It is great to know that I am settled here in Cape Town for the next three years for what is an important phase of my career,” Pokomela said.

“I have really enjoyed the environment here and feel that I have the opportunity to challenge myself and grow further with the players and coaches around me here,” he added.

Stormers coach John Dobson said that while Pokomela’s attributes as a player and athlete are exciting, his attitude and demeanour are also qualities that stand out and make him such an attractive prospect for the future.

“Junior is a driven individual with great leadership potential. He has an incredibly high ceiling as a player and the way he goes about his work is a great example to everyone,”Dobson said.

“There are few players who work as hard or are as committed to the cause as Junior is.

“That is the type of player we need here as we look to grow as a team over the next few years, so we are thrilled that he has decided to make Cape Town his home.”
