The 27-year-old lock born in South Africa has been with Northampton since 2017, and has been capped three times by England.

The Top 14 side said Ribbans was an “excellent touch player, capable of commanding the line-up” with “great defensive skills”.

He will arrive in France in July.

Ribbans is the second signing from Northampton for Toulon after the arrival of Welsh international fly-half Dan Biggar in October.

He also marks the second new arrival for next season, after Toulouse back-row Selevasio Tolofua.

Ribbans has played eleven games with his club, and he was selected by coach Steve Borthwick to prepare for the Six Nations match Saturday between England and Wales.
