The 24-40 defeat to Wales means that Eddie Jones’ side has now lost two of their first three games in this year’s Championship and fall to fourth – their lowest position since mid-August 2019.

Saturday’s game in Cardiff saw winners Wales jump to their highest position in the World Rugby’s Rankings for just over a year after taking the Triple Crown.

Wales gained 1.86 rating points and move up to fifth in the rankings as a result of the win on the occasion of George North’s 100th cap for his country.

Despite an emphatic 48-10 win in Rome, Ireland have been leapfrogged by Wales and they drop a place to seventh.

France moved up to the third position after their Six Nations fixture against Scotland was postponed.

While on top of the pile, the Springboks and All Blacks are still comfortably the top-two ranked sides in the world, despite South Africa not playing a single Test since the World Cup final in 2019.
