Name your Bok flyhalf
To win a World Cup it is crucial that you have a general at flyhalf and in most cases the flyhalves were the main architects in conquering that quest.
In 1987 it was Grant Fox for the All Blacks, 1991 Michael Lynagh for the Wallabies, Joel Stransky scoring all 15 points in the Final for the Springboks, 1999 Stephen Larkham for the Wallabies, 2003 Jonny Wilkinson for England, Butch James was the unsung hero for the Boks in 2007 and in 2011 the All Blacks went through four kingpins – with Stephen Donald ending up as the reluctant hero.
Looking at the Bok squad to be picked, the crucial issues Heyneke Meyer have, is in the lock department, centres (with the uncertainty if Bok captain Jean de Villiers will be fully recovered and fit in time) and who will be the loosies and props – as quite a few players raised their hands.
The flyhalf options have, over the last three years, become much richer pool to choose from.
The question is, who will go and who will stay?
Patrick Lambie and Handré Pollard are the favourites.
However, that will mean that the experienced Fourie du Preez and Jean de Villiers will have to be in- and outside of either of them.
Morné Steyn is Meyer's 'banker', while Elton Jantjies, Johan Goosen and Marnitz Boshoff are probably next in line.
Ruan Pienaar could be an emergency cover, with Demetri Catrakilis now part of the training camps, a last resort?
Who will be your Bok flyhalf in the crucial World Cup games?
