A year in pictures - Part Two

Hot on the heels of our photo gallery from Wednesday, we continue the countdown to 2011 by taking a look at some more top photos from the past rugby season; the second half of 2010.

Having started with the Six Nations, the Super 14 and the Tri-Nations in Part One, in the second half of this series we look at the start of the 2010/11 Heineken Cup, the conclusion of the Currie Cup – and the ‘birth’ of Pat Lambie! – and the end-of-year internationals in the United Kingdom.

Of course, last – but not least! – we also pay tribute to two of SA’s latest Test rugby centurions; John Smit and Victor Matfield – both of whom played their 100th Tests in 2010.

(6) The new Springbok ‘super-sub’ was Willem Alberts, who scored tries in each of his first three caps off the bench and even dispelled a few myths about forwards with this chip over the top against Wales on debut. (Duif du Toit/Gallo Images)

(7) Talk to the hand: Francois Steyn has been involved in a few rugby relationship breakdowns this year and England fullback Ben Foden’s hand-off was a real slap in the face. (Mike Hewitt/Getty Images)

(8) It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Boks in 2010 and speedster Lwazi Mvovo slid through a hole in the English defence to score his maiden Test try in just his second Test, handing his team another famous win at Twickenham in the process. (Warren Little/Getty Images)

(9) It’s THAT try again!! Chris Ashton left Drew Mitchell in his dust, incredibly sprinting from try from one end of the pitch to the other, as the English smashed the ‘Wobblies’ at Twickenham. (David Rogers/Getty Images)
