BJ's Currie Cup call

BJ Botha, writing for iafrica.com, takes a look at this weekend’s Currie Cup Final between the Sharks and Western Province… and picks his winner.

It’s been a long road in, but finally the final is upon us! The Sharks and Western Province have been the form teams this season and it should be an exciting game.

You would always say the two sides competing in the final deserve to be there, but I think it’s more than just being the best two sides in the competition. You have to be able to keep the team together, have a bit of luck on the injury front and hopefully put out the best team for the final.

Looking ahead to Saturday, we are again going to see a massive battle up front.

What I have seen of Western Province is just how much their pack has improved this season. I personally feel they are one of the strongest in the Currie Cup and they have evolved into a really aggressive outfit, which puts them in a situation to compliment their dangerous backline.

The Sharks have always had a strong pack and on Saturday it will not take much to motivate the two sets of forwards with so much on the line. In Finals, the game is won on such small margins and with defence starting at the set- pieces, the scrums and lineouts are going to be vital to keep the ball away from the opposition.
