CC TEAM OF THE WEEK: Title contenders

OPINION: Players from Western Province and the Sharks dominate our Currie Cup Team of the Week for Round Six.

There are five players from Western Province in our selection this week after their 38-12 victory over Griquas.

The Sharks also have five players in our team after their impressive 37-21 victory over the Golden Lions.

In the backline, we have Devon Williams at fullback with Sergeal Petersen and JJ Engelbrecht on the wings. The midfield consists of Neil Maritz and André Swarts.

Robert du Preez and Louis Schreuder are our halfbacks this week.

In the pack, Dan du Preez is our choice at No.8 and Jannes Snyman and Marnus Schoeman are the flanks.

In the second row we Chris van Zyl and Salmaan Moerat. The front row consists of Thomas du Toit, Bongi Mbonambi and Juan Schoeman.

Team of the Week – Round Six:

15 – Devon Williams (Pumas)
Impressive on attack in the win against the Free State Cheetahs.

14 – Sergeal Petersen (Western Province)
He continued his fine form with ball in hand against Griquas at Newlands. He added another two tries to his personal tally.

13 – Neil Maritz (Pumas)
A real handful with the ball against the Cheetahs and he scored one of his team’s tries in the win.

12 – André Swarts (Griquas)
Another strong showing by the Griquas centre. His distribution out wide was good and kept the Western Province defence guessing.

11 – JJ Engelbrecht (Western Province)
He was a force on attack against Griquas and he added his name to the scoreboard with a try.

10 – Robert du Preez (Sharks)
He gave a good account of himself once again in difficult conditions. He controlled play nicely and his kicking game was good.

9 – Louis Schreuder (Sharks)
He controlled things nicely from the breakdown and he was a constant threat with ball in hand.

8 – Dan du Preez (Sharks)
He played out of his skin in the win against the Golden Lions. He was powerful with ball in hand and scored two tries as well.

7 – Jannes Snyman (Free State Cheetahs)
He had a high work rate around the park in the loss to the Pumas.

6 – Marnus Schoeman (Pumas)
He made his presence felt at the breakdowns once again. He put in an energetic performance around the park and scored a try as well.

5 – Chris van Zyl (Western Province)
A mountain in the line-outs against Griquas and a monster on defence.

4 – Salmaan Moerat (Western Province)
He had a fantastic first half against Griquas. He got his team over the gain line on numerous occasions with some big carries.

3 – Thomas du Toit (Sharks)
Powerful in the scrums and he won several turnovers against the Lions. He was effective with ball in hand as well.

He had a high work rate on attack and on defence in the win against Griquas.
