OPINION: Round Four of Currie Cup 2019 was full of upsets.

The Golden Lions went to Bloemfontein to snatch a narrow 24-22 victory over the Free State Cheetahs, who were the log leaders heading into the round.

In Nelspruit, the Pumas got their first win of the tournament when they edged the defending champions Sharks 27-20.

And in Pretoria, Griquas smashed the Blue Bulls 37-15 to climb to the top of the standings.

This week, the Lions and Pumas lead the way with four players each in our Team of the Week. Griquas are close behind with three players.

Team of the Week – Round Four:

15 – Tyrone Green (Golden Lions)
His blistering pace destroyed the Free State Cheetahs’ defence on a few occasions and he added to his try-scoring tally again.
Bubbling under: Divan Rossouw (Blue Bulls)

14 – Madosh Tambwe (Golden Lions)
His pace with the ball out wide was eye-catching. He was a real handful for the Cheetahs’ defenders.
Bubbling under: Kobus van Wyk (Sharks)

13 – Dylan Sage (Blue Bulls)
Broke through Griquas’ defence on several occasions and was just a hard man to bring down.
Bubbling under: Ryan Nell (Pumas)

12 – Dries Swanepoel (Free State Cheetahs)
He gives the Cheetahs some much-needed physicality in the midfield and the Golden Lions felt it.
Bubbling under: Andre Swarts (Griquas)

11 – Stean Pienaar (Golden Lions)
He was elusive with ball in hand and his defensive work was excellent out wide.
Bubbling under: Etienne Taljaard (Pumas)

10 – Chris Smith (Pumas)
Contributed 17 points with the boot to his team’s winning tally against the Sharks. His game management was good, especially during a tense second half.
Bubbling under: George Whitehead (Griquas)

9 – Zak Burger (Griquas)
Scored two tries in the win over the Blue Bulls. His service from the base of the ruck was good and his decision-making across the field was spot on.
Bubbling under: Tian Meyer (Free State Cheetahs)

8 – Jeandre Rudolph (Pumas)
Played like a man possessed, especially with ball in hand. He got his team over the gain line with some powerful carries.
Bubbling under: Henco Venter (Free State Cheetahs)

7 – Sias Koen (Griquas)
He was all over the park in the win over the Blue Bulls. He tackled his heart out in what was a great defensive effort from the Kimberley side.
Bubbling under: Marco Van Staden (Blue Bulls)

6 – Marnus Schoeman (Golden Lions)
He was a monster at the breakdowns and he disrupted the Cheetahs’ play several times.
Bubbling under: Marnus van der Merwe (Free State Cheetahs)

5 – Victor Sekekete (Griquas)
Another industrious performance from the big man. He showed great power upfront and scored his team’s bonus-point try at Loftus Versfeld.
Bubbling under: Hyron Andrews (Sharks)

4 – Le Roux Roets (Pumas)
The 24-year-old was a hard man to bring down in Nelspruit against the Sharks. He got his team over the gain line on numerous occasions.
Bubbling under: Ruben van Heerden (Sharks)

3 – Coenie Oosthuizen (Sharks)
He did a lot of good work in open play against the Pumas. He is certainly trying to get Rassie Erasmus’ attention.
Bubbling under: Jacobie Adriaanse (Golden Lions)

2 – Joseph Dweba (Free State Cheetahs)
An energetic performance from the hooker which included a try.
Bubbling under: Jaco Visagie (Blue Bulls)

1 – Andrew Beerwinkel (Pumas)
He seems to getter better each week. The big prop had another standout performance in the No.1 jersey against the Sharks.
Bubbling under: Ox Nche (Free State Cheetahs)
