Jake White picks his World XV

Jake White answers this week’s questions on why the All Blacks are consistently better than the Springboks and why they produce better flyhalves, and also chooses his 2010 World XV.

Asked why South Africa can’t dominate the world stage like New Zealand, White said: “New Zealand are helped by the fact that all their players are centrally contracted and they effectively have one boss who is only concerned with the greater good of the country’s rugby. In South Africa, the players have two bosses, which makes life more difficult.

“The Polynesian players they’ve adopted from Samoa, Fiji and Tonga have also helped the style of rugby they like to play, while their coaching structures are more rigid and organised than ours, which means the best coaches come through the succession plans. New Zealand also have many former rugby people like Colin Meads still involved in the game, and they have the country’s best results at heart.”

As for his 2010 World XV: “I’m not going to select a side just based on the November internationals, but the year as a whole.”

Jake White’s World XV includes six South Africans, four New Zealanders and two Australians – with a sprinkling from other countriesd.
