'Keep a wary eye on the Bulls'

Serena Boyle is this week’s winner of our Maybru competition with this response to Quintin van Jaarsveld's column 'Time is right for SA Champs'.

Your article entitled "Time is right for SA Champs" is wrong starting from the title. Neither the Sharks nor the Stormers can be labelled SA Champs to start with as neither of them have ever won the Super 14 /15/Super Rugby tournament.

The only SA Champs are actually the Bulls. I also feel that you are completely undermining the Bulls who had to just about completely rebuild their team after the loss of Gurthro Steenkamp, Derek Kuhn, Bakkies, Victor, Danie Roussouw, Fourie du Preez, Gary Botha and others. As we all know some of South Africa's best players left the team and yet they still managed to make it into the top 6.

This year with one Super Rugby tournament under this particular team's belt and with the sterling way (it appears) that they beat the Cheetahs this weekend – as well as the fact that this is a franchise that knows how to win and doesn't exactly do second places very well – I think is one of teams to watch this year.

Francois Hougaard is back to his incredible form and it seems Morne is also back. I would definitely not pin all my hopes on the Sharks and Stormers but keep a wary eye on the Bulls this year.
