There is a version of rugby played in Italy where brawls and off-the-ball scuffles are part and parcel of the game.

Calcio Storico is an early form of football or rugby that originated in 16th-century Italy and is known to be an extremely traditional sport played with great pride by its players.

This is possibly the most violent sport played today.
