No-win situation for Pottie?

It’s Currie Cup semifinal weekend… so Extra-time is mainly geared towards those two semifinals – in Durban and in Cape Town – and you cannot blame us, really!

We also bring you the winners in our first-ever caption competition, all the nominees in the SA Rugby Player of the Year Awards and a few easy-on-the-eye Currie Cup fans…

WHAT ARE THE ODDS?

Last year Jacques-Louis Potgieter broke Durban’s hearts with his last-gasp drop-goal in Free State’s 23-21 Currie Cup semifinal win at the Shark Tank.

Potgieter is back in Durban this weekend, for the Bulls – and albeit on the bench – but what are the odds of him coming off the bench and kicking a late penalty (or drop!) to edge his team to victory… again?

Of course, it would be a tad awkward should that happen – Potgieter will be joining the Sharks next year.

Pre-season would also be a lot more interesting in Durban…

BACK YOUR BOYTJIES:

Based on these two SASI Swimsuit stunners below (one from Cape Town and one from Durbs) – ok, we’re not talking about Schalk Burger, Anton van Zyl or John Plumtree – who will you be backing in the Currie Cup semifinals this weekend?

WHO’S YOUR CHOICE?

It’s nice to see SARU giving South Africa’s rugby supporters the chance to help choose the SA Rugby Player of the Year. (See the full story here.)

Interestingly, three of the five contenders for the Player of the Year Award were not Bok regulars this year… Makes one think, doesn’t it?!

Also, how the heck did Francois Louw miss out on being shortlisted in the Super 14 category? The guy was absolutely tireless throughout and the most successful ‘turnover artist’ (FYI: This is a new word – we’ve claimed it) during the Super 14.

Click HERE for all the contenders – who do you think was unlucky to have missed out? Or who would you like to see walk off with the Player of the Year Award?

YOU’VE GOTTO GIVE THIS A READ:

If you haven’t already, make sure you read Ernst Joubert’s weekly rugby365.com column.

The Saracens star – who this week re-committed himself to the English club – has a wicked sense of humour, giving readers a unique insight into things at the SA-heavy north London club.
