Players Ratings: A Scottish revival
Scotland were following the same path as last week – trailing 14-20 at the break.
However, six second-half penalties by Greig Laidlaw spared the Scotts the embarrassment of suffering a loss at the Murrayfield.
The win put the side in a confident position with England visiting on February 24.
Steph Brawn rates the Scotland Players!
15 Stuart Hogg
Didn’t have all the swagger we usually see. Missed tackle in the first French try but made one trademark break and had a decent kicking game.
7/10
14 Tommy Seymour
Didn’t really get into the game but didn’t make any mistakes. Still well short of his best.
6/10
13 Huw Jones
Ran an excellent line to score Scotland’s second try and was a real threat in attack throughout. Unreliable in defence at times.
8/10
12 Pete Horne
Quiet in attack but good hands and fronted up well against much larger opponents.
7/10
11 Sean Maitland
Scored Scotland’s first try and made some good runs. Excellent poacher but still needs to improve to secure a starting place.
7/10
10 Finn Russell
Decent in attack but very poor kicking performance, failing to learn from mistakes against Wales. Wasted two penalties by missing touch.
5/10
9 Greig Laidlaw
Flawless from the kicking tee which ultimately won Scotland the match. Only real mistake was that he should’ve dived for the ball to prevent Terry Thomas’ second try.
8/10
8 Ryan Wilson
Would’ve looked to make an impression after a poor display from Cornell Du Preez last week but looked like he was lacking in confidence.
6/10
7 Hamish Watson
Made good yards with his dynamic running style and work rate was second to none.
7/10
6 John Barclay (captain)
Quiet game by his standards. Calm leadership qualities which was much-needed with frantic Russell at 10 but made little impact in the ruck.
6/10
5 Jonny Gray
Had a solid game with a massive work rate as always. Produced a huge handoff in the build up to Scotland’s first try.
7/10
4 Grant Gilchrist
Very aggressive ball carrier and made some decent breaks. Should be enough to secure a place in the starting line-up.
7/10
3 Simon Berghan
Decent return from suspension. Made a lot of carries and held his own in the scrum.
8/10
2 Stuart McInally
Tackled well and made good yards every time he had the ball. Scotland’s standout forward.
8/10
1 Gordon Reid
Quiet game in the loose. Decent showing in the scrum and keen at ruck time.
6/10
Replacements:
16 Scott Lawson

17 Jamie Bhatti (on for Reid, 57th min)
Decent impact player but would hope to secure a starting berth in two weeks time.
6/10
18 Jon Welsh
Not used
19 Ben Toolis (on for Gilchrist, 57th min)
Threw himself around after introduction but had little time to make an impact.
6/10
20 David Denton (on for Barclay, 64th min)
Made a great impression when he came on bringing that physicality the Scots were lacking against Wales. His strong ball carrying was a threat in the latter stages.
7/10
21 Ali Price (on for Russel, 64th min)
Offered much more attacking threat than Laidlaw with a few sniping runs.
7/10
22 Chris Harris
