The attack of the killer bees

In today’s edition of Extra-time we look at the bizarre bee invasion in Durban at the weekend, as well as a bad injury-break and, of course, some more picture funnies.

You’ll be pleased to know that our picture funnies include a throwback to the good ol’ lookalike days on rugby365.com, whilst we also have another brilliant caption competition and more!

Thanks for all the great feedback so far – it’s great to see how this new feature is going down – and don’t forget to keep those suggestions coming folks; we will publish anything you send.

(Ok, truthfully, not everything, but we had to say that!)

BUZZ OFF ALREADY…

Thanks to SuperSport we have heard the full variety of jokes about the bee invasion at Absa Stadium on Saturday.

None of them were any good, it must bee said. (Geddit?!)

No, the Sharks are not in the Bee-section… No, Absa Stadium wasn’t buzzing… and, no Butch James, Bees Roux wasn’t at the game. (If you don’t know what we’re talking about re Butch – check out his Twitter page.)

These two pictures, however, sum up a truly bizarre start to a match which reached Test-match intensity.

Out, damn bees, out!

It wasn’t much fun being a Sharks employee on Saturday…

Just a quick final note on this bizarre game – did anybody see Sharks No.9 Charl McLeod hug referee Marius Jonker at full-time? If so, does anyone have it on video?!

Also, see what Jonker had to say about the game, and the bee invasion, HERE!

PAIN IS THE NAME OF THE GAME:

We are really gutted about Piri Weepu’s broken ankle/leg – suffered in an NPC match at the weekend.

Making it even worse is that Weepu was not even scheduled to play this weekend… In fact, the Wellington star was meant to be on promotional duties in Melbourne this week. However, he opted to play for his province, the Lions, because he had domestic issues to attend to in Wellington and couldn’t make the trip to Australia.

We have the clip of his unfortunate injury below – just be careful, this isn’t for sensitive viewers!

Get better, soon, Piri; you’re a delight to watch – that throat-slitting Haka aside…

LOOKALIKE:

Remember our old lookalikes section on rugby365.com?

Well, it’s back, thanks to Strepie’s comment in the Derick Hougaard injury story.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

“It is a huge honour for me to have Tana [Umaga]’s help. He has been great and is an awesome player for his age.”
Ouch. ‘Whipper-snapper’ Jamie Chipman accidentally reminds the Counties No.12 – the one and only Tana Umaga – about his age.

PICTURE CAPTION:

Hot on the heels of our first-ever caption competition, which starred the leapfrog that is Jean de Villiers, what do you make of this picture of Shane Williams?

Should he be in the circus or on a gymnastics mat?
