We reckon a more recent scrumhalf could topple Joost off his perch

The late Joost van der Westhuizen will always be a favourite in the hearts of many around the world but perhaps Francois de Klerk could be right up there to topple the 89-Test capped.

Both have a World Cup winners medal in the cabinet – Van der Westhuizen in 1995 and De Klerk in 2019. However, when it comes to accolades, the Bulls legend certainly has the better of the current Sale Sharks scrumhalf. In all fairness though, De Klerk hasn’t had as long a career.

We’ve reached Part 4 of the Great Springboks Series as we work our way forward. It’s time for the scrumhalves to take centre stage, and while the list might not include any of the more recent Springbok scrumhalves, it’s still a highly-talented list.

Lengends of the past Fonnie du Toit, Dawie de Villiers and Danie ‘Doc’ Craven have made the list. However, it would seem the Bulls have had the better of the scrumhalf talent in the country over the years as Fourie du Preez and Joost van der Westhuizen head up the list.
