YouTube moments of 2010

As the 2010 rugby season continues to wind down at a rapid rate, we thought we would take a look back at some of our favourite YouTube clips of the season; some serious, some not so funny and some not even involving a rugby ball!

The advent of television has meant rugby players have nowhere to hide these days.

The advent of YouTube, however, has taken it a step further – making everybody a producer and showing the power of the internet to its full extent!

In no particular order, then, here are rugby365.com‘s YouTube moments of 2010:

(1) BRENDAN VENTER: SARACENS FUNNYMAN

Does this clip even need an introduction?

It’s probably the rugby clip of 2010 as the Saracens boss took it upon himself to show the rugby bosses in Europe just what he thought of being censured for speaking his mind!

Venter 1 ERC 0.

(2) BAKKIES (NOT) USING HIS HEAD

We carried a clip of Keven Mealamu’s head work on Lewis Moody in our Xmas gift list article and were referred to Bakkies Botha’s head butt on Jimmy Cowan. It ain’t pretty either!

(3) CHRIS ASHTON – A CONTENDER FOR TRY OF THE YEAR

In this clip, the Aussies came within inches of scoring at Twickenham against England in November. The ball was turned over, three England players handled and it led to a try at the other end of the field. Watch for yourself if you haven’t already.

(4) ONE MAN AGAINST THE WINTER

Hong Kong were on tour in Europe. Germany smashed them and then they smashed Norway. The match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam was to have been the last match of their tour.

Because of the expected bad weather the match was moved forward from Friday to Saturday but the snow was too quick. This is a view of the field and one man’s futile fight against the snow.

(5) BIG HIT – OF THE LEGAL SORT

A lot was made of England lock Courtney Lawes’ performances in November. He is a talent, but is not quite the finished article yet… however, he can tackle… and legally… just ask Leicester’s Scott Hamilton!

(6) RIVERDANCE – NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS

Gloucester lock Dave Attwood could face a lengthy ban for stamping on the face and seriously injuring La Rochelle prop Petrisor Toderasc in a Heineken Cup match earlier this month.

Decide for yourself.

(7) SKILLS 101

The All Blacks made waves with their skills video – as Piri Weepu and co. showed off their abilities for the camera.

The Brumbies then went one ‘better’ as they paraded their skills. This is what it’s all about – according to them, anyway!!

(8) BRUTAL DEFENCE

Counties Manukau’s Fritz Lee was handed a four-week suspension for a vicious coathanger tackle on replacement Northland scrumhalf Luke Hamilton in an Air New Zealand Cup match this season.

Has there been worse?!

(9) SONNY BILL WILLIAMS – THE HAND-OFF

A lot has been said and written about Sonny Bill Williams since his high-profile move to New Zealand.

Well, he left his mark on a Southland player – quite literally. (Hint, this happens pretty early on in the clip!)

(10) STICK TO TV, GUYS

The Sky Sports crew – Dewi, Stuart, Simon and Will – did their best (or should that be their worst?) to show that there is life after rugby should anything happen to their current jobs at Sky.

It’s a classic bit of advertising!
