A special Craven Week starts
The 2012 Craven Week for learners with special educational needs (LSEN) starts in Johannesburg on 25 June.
The tournament was initiated and funded by Herman Lemmer, an estate agent in Potchefstroom, in 1982 and for the first few years was called the Lemmer Week, a tournament for Under-18 players with disabilities, such as deafness, being partially sighted, suffering from epilepsy and battling academically. The name was changed to Craven Week in 1989 and that year there was television coverage of the week for the first time.
If you get a chance to go, do so. Unless it has changed dramatically, it is a most impressive tournament.
For the first time in 2009 a national LSEN Schools team, with the guineafowl as its emblem, was chosen which took part in the Under-18 Craven Week, but in 2010 the SA LSEN team went to the Academy Week as it will do again this year.
The fixtures for the first day are decided but the second day's fixtures will be determined after the first day in attempt to match teams by strength.
