Border dominant over Limpopo BB
Border outclassed Limpopo Blue Bulls by 12 tries to three with three Border players claiming hat-tricks in a 78-17 victory.
Border looked a well polished team with their inside backs impressing from the outset.
However, after making sure of the win, pretty much in the first half, (leading 54-0) Border went off the boil allowing Limpopo to score three tries.
Border were quick of the mark from a solid first scrum of the game, Michael Brink got his hands on the ball and put in a great chip over the defense which he re-gathered well to canter in for the first try. Morgan Steyn's first kick was a mere formality with Brink dotting down under the posts.
Steyn and Brink looked to link up again with a well worked chip, the chasing Brink just could not gather as the ball bounced high and awkwardly – errors becoming the a big part of the first half.
Border did manage to get some passes together for Jerry Danquah on the left wing to crack on the pace and weave and step his way to the try line with the defense languishing behind him. Steyn put in another solid strike to secure the conversion.
Steyn and Brits seemed to have a great understanding as the flyhalf, Steyn, ran towards the line to set Brits up for an easy run in, the outside center running straight and hard under the posts after the pass from Steyn. Another easy kick for the flyhalf.
An incredible try worked off a short line out for Border. A four man line-out saw Rob Lyons standing at scrumhalf, hooker Tango Balekile threw a flat throw for the lock forward to run onto through the middle of the line-out to get over for the score.
It did not take long for Danquah to get his second try of the game, Brits managed to break the line with a strong hand off before off-loading to the wing, he stepped inside to bamboozle the fullback giving him an easy run in under the posts. Steyn converted easily.
It was the two centres who linked up this time for Brink to get his second try, Brits managed a perfect off-load in the tackle that sent Brink on his way, the inside centre was able to step off his right foot to leave the defense flatfooted – scoring under the posts. Another easy kick for Steyn.
Not to be outdone, Brits soon got his second try from turn over ball. Reinhardt Engelbrecht enacted some quick thinking to play the ball on the blindside to Brits who had plenty of space to score under the posts, once again an easy conversion by Steyn.
Yamkela Nyalambisa was the next to benefit from some Steyn and Brink magic, the flyhalf played the perfect skip pass to put Brink into some space, he then stepped and popped the ball on the inside to Nyalambisa with a no-look pass, the wing then put in a spectacular dive for the try that almost ended with an injury! Steyn popped over the conversion with a drop goal as they went into the shed for half time.
Halftime saw Border dominating 54-0.
Danquah was on hand again to showcase his pace in the second half, after some scrappy play inside the Border half the pacey wing received the ball and basically rounded the whole team running across the field to score his hat-trick try.
Finally, Limpopo got themselves on to the score board with some strong work from tighthead Arthur Jones, he picked up from the ruck to go blind, cracked on some pace and was strong enough to stand up in the tackle to off-load to Dumisani Mushwana who got the try.
Brink got his hat-trick soon after the Blue Bulls score, after a turn over at the ruck the centre was able to sneak in to score the try.
Brink was not ready to settle down, a good line and great inside pass saw the centre dance his way through the defense for his fourth try of the day. Another easy conversion for Steyn.
Limpopo managed to get a second try through Diederik Oberholzer who was definitely deserving of the score. After some sustained build up, Oberholzer got within millimeters of the try line with a sniping break, the Blue Bulls then worked through some more phases until the ball was swung wide to Oberholzer who got his reward.
Limpopo were not dead and buried, Armand Davies got over for the Blue Bulls third try, but it was the work of Barend Janse van Rensburg that truly made it.
A dummy pass got the flyhalf into the gap, with the defense crowding around him another dummy pass and a step saw him get the ball away to Davies for the score. Janse van Rensburg got his first kick over.
Just before the final whistle got in for his hat-trick, again it was Steyn who got the hard running centre away for a straight run in. Steyn adding his final kick on the final whistle.
Man of the Match: For the Limpopo Blue Bulls, the scrumhalf Oberholzer as well as tighthead Arthur Jones deserve a mention. For Border, the impressive Morgan Steyn ran the show with aplomb. David Brits and Jerry Danquah both impressed with their hat-tricks but it was Michael Brink who was most impressive with his four tries and general dangerous play.
