EP CD take Border CD to the cleaners

Border began with plenty of passion and held their own but seemed to have given up immediately after conceding their first try – something EP CD took full advantage of as the match wore on.

The match got off to a slow start as the teams had a feel for each other. Border CD missed two penalties and were punished in the 15th minute when a Jonathan Crankshaw try broke the deadlock as he rounded off a flowing move after some continuity.

Vaughen Isaacs added the tricky conversion to ensure a 7-0 lead.

Crankshaw was at it again in the 25th minute when he grabbed his second of the match. Once again, some continuity and pressure on Border CD created an overlap for the fullback to dot down. Isaacs came up just short with the conversion as the lead stretched to 12-0.

Border CD were struggling to match EP CD's physicality and conceded a third try in the 31st minute when good hands and passing saw Lutho Nomoyi dive over. Isaacs found his range to add the extras and stretch their lead to 19-0.

EP CD has time for one final try of the half when Chulumanco Chutu got in on the action to add his side's fourth score. Isaacs slammed home the conversion to ensure a 26-0 lead at the break.

Lourens Oosthuizen continued EP CD's try scoring form when he found a way through Border CD's defence a minute after the restart. Isaacs missed the conversion once again but the lead stood at 31-0.

Border CD's discipline was nowhere to be seen as they conceded penalty and a converted try in quick succession. Chutu's second score of the match was converted by Isaacs after the kicker had slammed home a penalty. 41-0 after 51 minutes.

Ewan Pieters piled more misery on Border CD when he bashed over for EP CD's seventh score. Isaacs converted to edge closer to the 50-point mark. With 12 minutes remaining, EP CD enjoyed a 48-0 lead.

It was not long before the score hit the 50-point mark as Athenkosi Halom jinked his way through three defenders to sprint home. Isaacs' conversion ensured a 55-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

There was some joy for Border CD in the 65th minute when Bonisile Mapongwane muscled his way over the line to break their duck and trail 5-55. EPCD would have the final say though as Sibabalwe Mzanywa added his name to the scorers list.
