Under-13 Craven Week starts
Warm in Potchefstroom
The Under-13 Craven Week started in warm weather in Potchefstroom. The matches were all played at Olën Park, the headquarters of the Leopards Rugby Union.
Scorers:
For Free State Daniel Marais, Jan de Klerk, and Johannes de Klerk scored tries. Daniel Marais kicked a conversion.
Siphiwe Radebe scored a try for Mpumalanga. NJ Arnoldi converted and kicked a penalty goal.
Western Province did it neatly with tries – three of them by Craig Barry, who scored two, and Mogamat Dames.
The Falcons had a huge win over the Griffons. They scored five tries – by Heinrich Bronkhorst, James Jackson, Lionel Tolmay, Michael Holtzhauzen and Willem Steenkamp. Michael Holtzhauzen kicked a conversion and a penalty goal.
Pienaar Scholtz scored the Griffons' only points with a penalty goal.
Tries by Johannes Bosch, Victor Faurie and Nhlanhla Mokoena and two conversions by Johannes Putter gave the Blue Bulls their comfortable victory.
Border were too good for Namibia, scoring six tries to one. Anathi James, Johannes Goosen and Tyron Schultz each scored a try for the victors while Andile Jho scored a hat-trick. Lonwabo Ntleki kicked a hat-trick. For Namibia, Andre Berg scored a try.
Scoring three tries to two Griquas just deserved to beat Limpopo (the old Far North). For Griquas Dewald Els scored two tries and Louwrens Strydom one.
Johannes van der Westhuizen scored both Limpopo's tries, both converted by Juan Vos.
Three tries gave Border Country Districts their victory over Zimbabwe. Phathuxolo Maqebula, Siphathise Nyanda and Zwelijikile Nkanyana scored the tries while Edzai Jaure kicked a penalty for Zimbabwe.
The Golden Lions surprised with as big win over the youngest Eagles. Sean Smith and Tshepo Meyers each scored two tries and Stepan Nel another. William Small-Smith kicked two conversions.
The home side beat Boland by a point, a penalty beating a conversion. The sides scored two tries each, Bonkang Mokwetla and Daniel Wahl for the Leopards and André Pieters and Brian Marks for Boland. Ruan Venter kicked the penalty, Erik van der Merwe the conversion.
