Western Province choose for Craven Week

Jody Rose back from injury

Western Province have chosen their team for the Craven Week in Nelspruit in July. There are three players back from the 2003 team, including Jody Rose of the SA Under-19 team who has been injured of late.

Jody Rose, tall and fast, has been chosen as a centre where he has played mostly at flyhalf. The other two back from last year are eighthman Ashley Johnson and scrumhalf Allistair Siegelaar.

Five of the team have fathers who played top rugby. Johan Stofberg is the son of Theuns Stofberg, the former Springbok captain. Ashley Johnson, the captain of Paarl Gim, Jody Rose, Therlow Petersen  and Ricardo Croy are all sons of players who were stars in the days of the Federation. Ashley Johnson's father, Archie was a prop for the Proteas and Western Province League, as was Therlow Petersen whose father Tommy captained the Proteas and Western Province League. Enver Rose was a wing and a fullback for Western Province League and Richard Croy a scrumhalf for the Proteas and Western Province League.

Eben Heunis is the son of JC Heunis, a former provincial centre and at present on the staff of Hugenote in Wellington.

Paul Roos have five in the aide, followed by Boland Landbou and Paarl Gim with four each. Paarl Boys' High have three. These four schools, with a total of 16 in the side, have been under pressure in some quarters to move to Boland.
