Youth Weeks Throwback Thursday - Notshe
This year will be the 53rd year since its inception that the best schoolboy players will gather at the respective tournaments – which have produced over 260 Springboks – and continue to be the arena where heroes are made.
Each week leading up to the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks, we're going to tip our hat to a Springbok player whose career took off at one of these highly esteemed competitions. By highlighting his career, we'll be touching on the impact, support and experience gained during his school years.
The Youth Weeks starts in July with the U-13 Craven Week and U-16 Grant Khomo Week from July 4-8 at Paarl Gymnasium. The U18 Craven and Academy Weeks will run from July 11-16 at Kearsney College in Durban.
Sikhumbuzo Notshe
One of the brightest young talents who recently received his call up to the Springbok squad, Sikhumbuzo Notshe is a fine example of how successful the Coca-Cola Youth Weeks are in player development.
He represented Western Province at the U-13 Coca-Cola Craven Week in 2006, the U-16 Coca-Cola Grant Khomo Week in 2009 and at two U-18 Coca-Cola Craven Weeks(2010 and 2011).
Notshe's performances in these weeks saw him receive the call up to the S.A. Schools side that played against France in 2011. Still only 23 years of age, Notshe has impressed with excellence for both Western Province and the Stormers.
He is currently part of the squad that is playing in a three-Test match Series against Ireland, where Notshe will be looking to accomplish his dream of playing for the Springboks.
