Emphatic victory for St Andrew?s

St Andrew’s beat Cambridge of East London 65-0 in Grahamstown on Saturday.

Harley Searle, Master-in-Charge of Rugby at St Andrew’s College, said: “Playing their first game of the season in front of the whole school on Lower Field on 19 May appeared to inspire the St Andrew’s College 1st XV. Competing against Cambridge High from East London the team was able to establish good continuity and confidence from the start of the game and also translated this into points, with four tries being scored in the opening 15 minutes.”

This commitment set the tone for the rest of the game and despite a lack of tries on the middle part of the first half St Andrew’s College were able to score two more quick tries right at the end of the first half to lead 38-0.

Competing well at scrums and line-outs, holding onto the ball for extended periods of time and breaking the defensive lines through well placed kicks and strong running were the facets of play that looked particular good during the game.

In the second half St Andrew’s were able to maintain their dominance over the Cambridge side and ran in a further 5 unanswered tries. The end result being an emphatic 65 – 0 victory to St Andrew’s College.
