Glenwood revive Old Boys match

Glenwood’s 1st XV, the Green Machine, beat the Old Boys 24-21 in the first match between the 1st XV and the Old Boys since the early 1980s.

The long wait was finally over since, as the Old Boys team packed down against the current Glenwood 1st team last Friday.

The laaities sped out to a 19-0 lead, but the ‘ou manne’ used their experience and undoubted physical attributes to claw their way back into the game.

With a couple of minutes remaining the match was poised on a knife edge at 19-14, however thanks to a lot of luck and some help from their 16th player on the field the kids dotted down in the right-hand corner.

The ballies, being the fighters they are, did not give up and surged over the line with a few minutes left.

Final score 24-21 to the ankle-biters on a day that will be remembered for bringing the ‘Glenwood Family’ closer together.

Not having had sufficient time to prepare it was a valiant effort from the Old Boys, who have pledged to come back with a vengeance next year. The game will become an annual fixture: We don’t know about the date and time for next year’s massacre (by the Old Boys of course) but it will definitely be the same place!
