Graeme in big win over Woodridge
The Graeme first rugby team scored five tries in each half to over power Woodridge 69-14 in Grahamstown on Saturday.
The forwards scored six tries, with eighthman Roscoe Dredge and hooker Matthew Nunn claiming two each. This was indicative of the forward dominance Graeme had, but also showed the 15-man rugby they played on the day.
Many of the tries were scored from deep in their own half, not because of weak defence from Woodridge, but simply because Graeme played the type of rugby any coach would be proud of.
Graeme had a strong breeze to their advantage in the first half, and combined their wealth of possession by playing in Woodridge’s half for long periods. Graeme led 34-0 at half time.
Woodridge scored early in the second half after centre Will Geyer broke the line, and Argentinian scrumhalf Manuel Raiz also scored to give Woodridge their points. But Graeme kept running in tries from all over the field and with all players regularly involved, with wing Bradley Birkholtz scoring the final two to complete his hat trick.
