We have had 1 vs 2 and 2 vs 3, now it’s 3 vs 4, for Paul Roos are ranked No.3 on the Schools Top 20, Boys’ High 4th. It is, in world terms, one of the very best schoolboy rugby matches.

Paul Roos went on a triumphant trip to the Sanix World Youth Rugby Tournament in Japan, and last week played their first match back in South Africa and lost 42-15 to Paarl Gim, the No.2 side. hat was in Stellenbosch; now they go across the N1 to Paarl for another tough encounter. It’s a demanding welcome home, and their victory in Japan makes them even more of a target.

They are both excellent sides, and a big crowd is expected on a day of 20 matches between the two schools.

Season So Far.

Paul Roos have lost only one of their 11 matches, and that was to Paarl Gim last week. But they have played only three South African schools , plus three from New Zealand, two from Japan and one each from Australia, England and Russia. The South African schools that they beat are Grey PE and Rondebosch, both Top 20 teams.

Paarl Boys High have won eight of their 10 matches so far with a draw and a defeat. In their first match of the season, they drew 20-all with Helpmekaar and their only defeat was 43-24 against the great Grey Bloem side. Of the other schools who are or have been on the Top 20, Boys’ High have beaten Glenwood, Affies, Monument, Outeniqua and Drostdy.
