Affies a tough match for Glenwood
In the 1st XV match Affies won comfortably but Glenwood did well against powerful opposition.
The Glenwood-Affies game is always a important part of the Glenwood Rugby calendar. It is a physical match-up between two of the top 20 schools in South Africa. This weekend was no different as the inter schools fixture was a tough battle for all the teams involved. Our opens played especially well and it was great to see all our "Grasshopper"; the 9th to 4th team play games and do so well against a tough opposition. The 3rds and 2nds also won their games and played really good , hard rugby.
The first team game started well for Glenwood as we raced to a 11-3 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game. Affies being the top team that they are, answered soon after from a Glenwood mistake at kick-off time with a try in the corner. Glenwood made a further three mistakes in the last part of the first half and Affies scored three tries from that. Half time score was 11-32.
Glenwood played better in the second half but still conceded three tries to two in the second half through mistakes. A lesson hard learnt that against a classy outfit such as Affies you don't make mistakes and walk away unpunished on the scoreboard….
It was a physical, hard game of rugby filled with highs and lows. The day was enjoyed by all and we will continue to grow and learn as a team. Final score 23-53
