Affies Surprise on Day 1
There were just two matches on Friday, Freedom Day. Both matches produced clear winners.
Grey College of Bloemfontein beat Drostdy 47-5 in the opening match and then Affies, after three successive defeats, beat Boland Landbou 38-14 and the Paarl side are ranked 10th on the FNB Top 20. whereas Affies were not in the Top 20.
At half the score was a competitive 19-14 but Affies scored on in the second half while keeping Landbou scoreless.
Landbou actually scored first when win Bertus Baard scored and Gavin Mills converted. by two tries gave Affies a 12-7 lead which they built on.
Landbou started well enough in the second half but then Affies took over. The final count tells the story – six tries to two.
The try count in the first match was even bigger – seven to one in favour of Grey who led 21-5 at half-time.
