Aidon Davis - Captain of Daniel Pienaar
Daniel Pienaar have a strong captain – both physically and mentally – so it’s hardly surprising that he is expecting a tough tussle up front when his team takes on Die Brandwag in their FNB Classic Clashes encounter this Saturday.
Aidon Davis tips the scales at 100 kilograms and stands 1,91 metres tall.
The Grade 12 pupil plays in the No.8 position and looks up to Duane Vermeulen and Pierre Spies – both of whom are big and strong and scary on defence, but both of whom also enjoy roving the field with ball in hand.
“I love the loose aspect of playing No.8,” he tells the official FNB Classic Clashes website, “but a harder, tighter game also suits me somewhat.”
In terms of captaincy, Aidon enjoys it a lot too – describing it as “a massive honour”.
He is especially looking forward to Saturday’s home game, as the hosts go about over-turning last year’s 5-11 loss in this annual Classic Clashes encounter.
“We’re feeling good,” he says ahead of the weekend, “we’ve trained well and we’re ready.
“I think both teams have good, big packs, so I’m expecting the game to be won up front.”
Aidon would like to study in 2013, but he is not sure where exactly or what he will be studying.
It is clear, however, that the lure of Varsity Cup rugby – either at Under-20 or senior level – is proving too tough to ignore!
But right now, Aidon’s focus is on Saturday’s clash in Uitenhage and there is also the small matter of Craven Week selection, having last year played for the Eastern Province Academy team.
“It’s [Craven Week selection] in the back of my mind,” he admits, “but my focus is entirely on Saturday for now. Besides, if the team does well, we will all benefit from it!”
